Vancouver, BC (Oct 25 & 26)

We took a quick overnight family trip to BC to visit family and to meet our new little 4 1/2 month old cousin Marin! Tulip loved playing with Yohei and Kosuke and seemed to learn a lot from interacting with them. We ate some delicious Japanese food - Asako and Takayuki are awesome cooks!

Takayuki san, Asako san, Yohei kun, Kosuke kun and Marin chan!

Kaua'i, Hawaii (Oct 11)

Hike to Queen's Bath

This was a relatively easy hike down through a tropical forest to the lava shelf shore. The hike itself is just as rewarding as the destination spot. There's a little waterfall that follows the trail down. The sounds of the water and birds combined with the scent of passion fruit made this hike such a treat!

The lava rocks create pools of water - some safe to swim in - others not so safe. We snorkeled in one of the pools and saw some beautiful exotic fish.

The hike down...

Not a safe place to swim!

Snorkeling with Tulip in tow

For some reason we forgot to take a picture of the overall 'bath'... so here's someone else's pic!

The hike back up...

Couldn't resist - I just had to get under the waterfall.
Plus it was a great way to wash the salt water off.

Tulip, pretty much at the end of every day!

Hanalei Bay
Here's an overhead view of the area. Absolutely beautiful!

This was our favorite beach to chill on. There were 14 foot swells on this day. Paul braved the waters and surfed while Tulip and I watched from the shore. We moved around the beach so these pics are from different areas of the bay.

Watching the sky and light change...

These houses were right on the beach directly behind me. What a sweet spot!
